What does treatment really cost you?
Most patients are surprised by how little they pay themselves after insurance reimbursement. Here are three practical examples:
Example 1: CSS myFlex (75% reimbursement)
For 8 treatments, you pay a total of CHF 240 instead of CHF 960.
Example 2: Swica Completa Top (90% reimbursement)
One of the best levels of cover on the market.
Example 3: Without supplementary insurance
Is supplementary insurance worthwhile? From 3–4 treatments a year: yes.
How to check your cover in 5 minutes
Option 1: Call your health insurer
The quickest way. Call your insurer's customer service number and ask:
"Hello, I would like to know whether my supplementary insurance covers Ayurvedic treatments with an EMR-certified therapist."
Ask specifically about the reimbursement percentage, the annual limit and whether a doctor's prescription is required.
Option 2: Check online
Most insurers offer online portals. Log in and look for Ayurveda under ‘Benefits’ or ‘Complementary medicine’.
Option 3: I can check for you
Not sure or short of time? Email me your insurance policy or give me a call. I will check it for you free of charge and get back to you within 24 hours.
The process: from booking to reimbursement
1.Book an appointment
Online, by phone or via WhatsApp. All you need are your contact details.
2.Treatment
You come to the practice (or I come to you). You pay on the day – in cash, with TWINT or by card.
3.Receive your invoice
You receive a detailed invoice with all the required information: EMR number, treatment date and description of services.
4.Submit your invoice
Submit the invoice to your health insurer – by post or through your insurer's app. No doctor's prescription is required.
5.Receive your reimbursement
Your insurer transfers the reimbursed amount to your account within 2–4 weeks.
What does EMR mean?
EMR stands for Empirical Medicine Register. It is the official registration body for complementary medicine therapists in Switzerland.
Only treatments provided by EMR-certified therapists can be billed to supplementary insurance. Certification guarantees:
- Verified professional training
- Regular continuing professional development
- Compliance with quality standards
- Professional indemnity insurance
If your therapist is not EMR-certified, your health insurer will not pay – even if you have supplementary insurance.
Check a therapist: you can look up any therapist on emr.ch. Or simply ask them directly for their EMR number.
→ emr.ch (official website)Taminaa Ayurveda has been EMR-certified since 2009.
Common mistakes that lead to rejected claims
The therapist is not EMR-certified
You see a therapist who is not registered with EMR.
Solution: Check on emr.ch beforehand or ask for their EMR number.
No supplementary insurance
Ayurveda is only covered by supplementary insurance, not by basic health insurance.
Solution: Check your policy or ask your insurer.
Annual limit already reached
You have already used other complementary treatments (acupuncture, osteopathy, etc.).
Solution: Ask your insurer how much cover you have left before your treatment.
Incomplete invoice
The invoice does not include all the required information.
Solution: My invoices meet all the requirements. You do not need to worry about this.
